Chain Store Age Magazine’s Retail Store of the Year Awards

MONROE, Mich. (April 12, 2012) – A new store design concept from La-Z-Boy has received the 2012 Chain Store Age Retail Store of the Year Award for “Best Hardlines Store Under 15,000 Square Feet.” The new design debuted with La-Z-Boy’s Warwick, Rhode Island location in fall 2011, followed by Attleboro, Massachusetts and Montreal, Quebec. A judging panel comprised of professional retail designers and retailers in the hardlines industry utilized the following criteria in selecting the award: unique design elements and materials, design theme and objectives, and special challenges and solutions.

“The new La-Z-Boy store concept allows customers to see the full breadth of the La-Z-Boy product line, including stationary pieces, sofas, loveseats, ottomans as well as the iconic La-Z-Boy recliner,” said Mark Bacon, President, La-Z-Boy Branded Business. “This new store embodies the La-Z-Boy ‘Live Life Comfortably’ tagline, with a shopping experience as comfortable as our furniture.”

Located in the heart of the store, the Design Inspirations center showcases several beautiful and fully accessorized room vignettes. Chain Store Age noted that the Inspirations Center “celebrates style and spotlights current trends.” The rest of the store is laid out by lifestyle, from contemporary to classic, reflecting today’s shopping habits. In the Design Center, customers can use interactive technology to render any furniture piece in any of La-Z-Boy’s 900+ fabrics and 100+ leathers. La-Z-Boy offers free In-Home Design Assistance from professionals experienced at helping turn design concepts into reality. The new store also offers a large selection of home accents and accessories to help customers create a complete look.

After surveying hundreds of other store designs, Chain Store Age chose La-Z-Boy’s new store layout, designed in conjunction with Interbrand Design Forum, for its innovative color choices, economical use of space, and resourceful and efficient floor plan. Chain Store Age recognized La-Z-Boy for its success in widening “its appeal with a design that allows the retailer to convey the full depth of its product offering.” The next store featuring an updated layout will open in spring 2012 in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.
