Basement Room Design-2023
Designer: Madalyn Brashear
This client wanted a perfect blend of style and comfort for her basement. As most people know, basements are usually dark and secluded, but the client really emphasized that she wanted to really brighten up the space. We went with the Collins Sectional, as it has a stylish transitional look with maximum comfort. Paired with a light fabric, it really brought everything to life! We contrasted it with a unique print on the chair and pillows. It was important to tie in her paint colors which is Sherwin Williams sea salt. The client was looking for a cozy, country feel, so the tables used are a part of the Chambers Collection from Hammary. This room makes you want to curl up and relax!

September - 2023 Make-Over

These long-term clients wanted to spruce up their space! They wanted to incorporate rustic and organic pieces to play off their country aesthetic in their home. To achieve this look, I selected the Liam reclining sofa and loveseat. Catty-corner is the Dora swivel chair with a western looking pattern to add interest to the room. For the living room tables and dining set, I decided to use Kincaid's Plank Road collection because it has a rustic, yet designer look. To tie it all together and soften the look, I selected rugs with a light, modern organic look to lighten and brighten the space since the clients stated that the lighting in their home has always been an issue. Overall, their new look is stunning!

My client was really looking to spruce up her space! She wanted something that looked well put-together, but also something inviting! For her living room, we chose to make it more of a conversation area. This room features the Meyer sofa, Allegra swivel glider, our Cascade table collection, and a beautiful, cozy rug. In the living area, we featured our Paxton sectional to give a comfy and oversized look. It is perfect for her grandchildren to hang out and watch movies! My client wanted a transitional look with botanical prints and pops of blue, and I think we achieved that perfectly!

Introducing La-Z-Boy of Louisville's beach-inspired makeover that will make you want to kick off your shoes and dig your toes into the sand! I transformed this client's home with a chic coastal vibe reminiscent of her hometown in Barbados. With bold blues and greens, this space now feels like a breath of fresh sea air! In this design, I used the Amanda sofa, paired with the Scarlett designer push back recliner, and Cory ottoman. Alongside the furniture, I selected Kincaid's Vista Collection for the console and end tables. The light wash wood really pulls the whole coastal look together!

This client’s home went from dull and drab, to bright and fab! My clients had moved into a new home that was newly renovated, and the furniture they brought with them wasn't cutting it. We wanted to go light and bright with all the pieces in the room, and she wanted everything to stay in the neutral family. We added the Reese reclining sofa so that watching tv, on their new Kincaid entertainment center, would be relaxing, yet stylish! We paired the sofa with two Allegra swivel accent chairs with a contemporary pattern to create interest within the space. I also added a stunning modern looking rug with neutral accents to tie everything together! Overall, this transformation was much needed and was much appreciated from the clients!

These clients were looking to completely renovate their living area and create a contemporary look!
We planned this renovation around their beautiful art deco table they cherish so much, so it was important to make that the focal point of the space.
We extended their hardwood floor to replace the carpet, repainted to brighten up the space, as well as added an accent wall for a pop of color.
The fun and contemporary pattern of the chair and pillows help to really bring visual interest. The pieces used in this transformation are the Edie duo reclining sofa and the Finley power recliner.

In Home Design -2023

✨This client was struggling with furniture placement and cluttering of the room. My objective was to have enough seating for 6-8 guests, still provide enough walking room, and lighten and brighten the space! This client had requested reclining furniture as well as a ultra comfortable recliner for her husband to kick back and relax. Her color scheme was blues, whites, and grays to compliment her newly renovated kitchen. All together, I added a new James sofa, Neal recliner, 2 Midtown swivel chairs, 2 Leo storage ottomans, and a rug for under the dining table

In Home Design-2022

A beautiful before and after for my sweet client! I took her empty feeling living area to a beautifully furnished space for her, family, and friends to enjoy. I wanted to create a conversation area for her room as it is used more to host rather than lounging. I incorporated 2 Allegra swivel chairs with a what they call now a "modern, traditional" fabric. Botanical prints are a big hit right now! The chairs paired with the Laurel sofa creates an elegant and sophisticated look. Her new coffee and accent table bring in contrast against her light floors and provide great storage for her convenience. Also, a new dining set was a must in this space! The nook collection dining set fits perfectly in her space and creates separation of spaces in her open concept room.

2022 Make-Over

Room Makeover
These clients wanted to update their living area in their home. Previously they had a very traditional and dark look in their space and brightening it up was just what this living room needed! The clients were adamant about creating a comfy, cozy conversation area for entertaining guests as well as relaxing. Placing two sofas across from each other creates this along with the accent chair sitting adjacent to the sofas. The clients loved the traditional look of the Mackenize sofa but incorporating the contemporary look of the Rheeves reclining chair created a transitional look. Transitional is the mix of modern and traditional, so this pairing worked beautifully together! In order to brighten up the space, I chose a light/neutral fabric on the sofa. I chose a light yet bold pattern on the accent chair and pillows to create contrast and visual interest within the space. Keeping everything neutral creates versality within the space. The rug chosen pulls all the colors within the sofa and chair and has a modern pattern look and feel which provides updated look. The artwork chosen pulls everything together creating a cohesive and unified look! Overall, their new living room is light, bright, and updated!

Fisherville

Fisherville Home
These clients wanted to update their main living room to include a sofa as well as two comfortable seats for viewing television. They wanted comfort, but did not want the casual look of recliners. The clients loved the stylish look of the Alexandria sofa and the Chandler recliners and also found that the recliners suited their television-viewing needs. Knowing that the clients wanted to keep their existing wall color and some artwork that was dear to them, the designer worked with the clients to narrow down patterns and fabrics, and ultimately decided on a color scheme of ivory, gray, black, and a touch of lime green – which tied in to both their artwork and to their adjacent rooms. The clients had just gotten a new puppy, so the designer steered the clients toward using all iClean fabrics, which are known for their built-in stain resistance. The designer put together a placement plan for their furniture based on how they planned to use the space and suggested other pieces to finish the room. She selected the Modern Basics table group because the stone-like tops complimented the fabric selections and they also offered the right shapes and sizes to fit the space. The nesting cocktail table helped to fill the space and also offered accessibility from both the sofa and the two recliners, all while being centered in the room. The designer selected the Biscane console table for the back wall, which had a light washed wood finish that coordinated well with the other tables and finishes. She also found the perfect framed prints with accents of blues and greens to center over the console table, and advised the customers on where to hang their existing artwork to fill the space effectively and create flow. The designer carefully selected a rug that was large enough to ground the seating arrangement, but was still small enough to show off the clients’ beautiful inlay border in their flooring. By choosing the perfect combination of fabrics, finishes, furniture, placement, and accents, the designer was able to achieve an eclectic, yet cohesive look for the room. The clients were very pleased with the outcome, as it offered them comfortable seating, but had the stylish and sophisticated feel that they desired.

Showcase #1

This customer wanted to update the great room. We replaced the existing chairs with two leather La-Z-Boy recliners and a stationary chair with ottoman in a rich spicy fabric to bring out the warm tones in the window treatments. Distressed occasional tables, including a large round coffee table/leather ottoman were added to balance the vaulted wood ceiling, giving the space that "lodge" feeling. A large area rug brings in the spicy hues again and the elegant yet rustic table lamps bring a soft warm glow to the space. A large black framed mirror adds dimension above the fireplace and reflects the architectural metal art we hung on the back wall. Accessories on the mantle and hearth are the finishing touches and the silk greenery softens the large brick fireplace.

Showcase #2

This space needed some definition and a fresh new look. The dated oversized chair and ottoman took up too much space and it was hiding the beautiful built-in shelves in this charming craftsman home. We replaced the chair with the clean-lined Carlyle recliner in a solid paprika fabric that contrasts well with the white shelves and picks up the warm tones of the floor. The curved wooden arm adds an interesting shape to the space and the coffee finish stands out against the oak floor. The curve of the lamp adds yet another interesting shape and brings a soft yellow glow to the space. We accessorized the shelves with unique pottery and art sculptures, carrying some of the red tones of the fabric up into the space. We scaled back on the personal photos and only used them along with books as filler, where needed. By adding new accessories and balancing these throughout the unit, we turned this bland backdrop into the stunning craftsman showcase it was meant to be.

Therapy Office

This therapy office needed a transformation. The plain white walls made the space seem sterile and uninviting. Using the original artwork that was already in the space we selected a warm color combo for the walls. Adding a chair rail created an opportunity to use more than one color on the walls giving the space more interest. The La-Z-Boy Talbot sofa replaced the existing love seat. The Talbot sofa is a very compact, clean-lined sofa and was the perfect piece to replace the oversized love seat, adding an extra seat into the space without using much more floor space. The larger chairs were also replaced with the smaller, compact Talbot chairs. The fabrics were selected based on the paint colors and artwork, and a custom rug was designed to bring together all elements of the space. We kept the end tables and the bookcase, which we moved from another wall to balance the space. The cherry frames were added to the canvases to tie in with all the rich woods. The curved-base lamps were the finishing touch, bringing in a little more visual interest and a soft, soothing glow. The final product is an inviting, serene space with simple yet elegant furnishings in a balanced and flowing layout.

University of Louisville Women's Basketball

This space was renovated and designed for the University of Louisville Women's Basketball Team. The client needed a lounge that provided a place to relax and study, as well as a place for entertainment and recreation. A large sectional in warm red tones provided maximum seating. Two large storage ottomans on castors were added, providing extra seating, when needed. A custom designed rug in rich chocolate tones anchored the space creating an intimate setting. Granite top pub tables with bar stools provided a soothing place to relax and enjoy a snack between classes. The bar stools were upholstered in rich red, mustard and chocolate tones that coordinated with the sectional fabrics. A pool table was added behind the sectional, and the Louisville Cardinals mural made the perfect backdrop for this college athletic lounge.

Room Makeover

This client was moving into a new place, so we were able to start from the beginning. She wanted a room that was colorful and contemporary, so we started with a black leather loveseat and two red leather recliners. We brought in a clean, modern entertainment console along with striking abstract canvases and metal art. The geometric area rug and greenery finish off the space.

Highland area room make-over

These clients wanted a colorful, fun, yet functional space for their main living room. We replaced their sofa and recliner with La-Z-Boy pieces in contemporary styles to compliment their existing artwork, end tables, and accent chairs. The sofa selected was a new La-Z-Boy Duo which not only added an extra seat to their room, but also added two recliners - as it reclines at each end. The teal & lime pillow fabric was the first fabric chosen, so we took a cue from that and the teal in the existing artwork, and decided to use teal as the main color for the sofa. We chose a custom green top-grain leather and silver handle for the single recliner to incorporate a sleek look. We used a dark coffee finish on all upholstery pieces to tie in with their existing tables. We also found the perfect coffee table in a similar finish, but with a glass top to lighten the room up and showcase their fun style. We switched placement of the two existing end tables to allow for more functional use with their furniture layout. The rug selected grounded the space while pulling all of the colors in the room to achieve an overall cohesive look.

St. Matthews Home

St. Matthews Home
These clients were parents of young children, and wanted to update this room to be their “adult” space – but still wanted family-friendly finishes. They also wanted to include a reading area if all possible, and seating for both themselves and guests. The clients loved the Abby Duo sofa because of its smaller size, and because it allowed them to slightly recline while still having the look of a regular sofa. They also loved the Bellevue Swivel chair, so the designer suggested placing two of them by a window, which would offer views to the television, other seating, and out the window. The designer suggested the Ferndale reclining chair and ottoman for the reading area and the clients loved it because it was a comfortable fit for them, and also complimented the style of the other pieces. The designer collaborated with the clients to find fabrics in a neutral gray tone, and added in some lime green and aqua for subtle pops of color that also complimented the existing gray-blue wall color. They selected a bold gray and lime green floral pattern for the two swivel chairs which added a fun pop. The designer chose circular silver toned mirrors to mimic the pattern on the chairs, and chose a large piece of artwork with pops of lime green and aqua, and strategically placed them to bounce both light and color around the room. She also carefully selected tables, lamps, and a rug to achieve contrast with textures and colors and to also make the most efficient use of the space. The clients were pleased with the cohesive overall feel of the room and are now enjoying their “adult” space.

Upper Highlands Home

These clients wanted to refresh the living area in the back of their house, and wanted for it to become the room for their daughters to hang out in after school. Because these clients also have a beloved dog, they wanted durable fabrics and finishes for the space. Collaborating with the clients, the designer chose a dark brown leather for two recliners and a light colored fabric for the sofa… and both materials contrasted well with the existing greenish gray wall color. The designer selected a fabric for the pillows on the sofa that tied in with the dark brown leather, and also added a pop of a rust color. Tables from the Kincaid Foundry collection were used to add to the rustic, durable look and feel of the room. The designer also chose a coordinating round accent table which was small enough to fit between the two new recliners, creating a cohesive, yet highly functional space. The clients were happy with the end result, as their daughters have not only been using the room as their after school “hangout”, but they’ve enjoyed playing a part in helping to accessorize with their own personal touches!

Jeffersontown Home

Jeffersontown Home
These clients had been in their new house for a couple of years, but still needed to find the perfect furniture for their living room and sunroom. For their living room, they wanted all reclining pieces (sofa, loveseat, and two single recliners), but wanted a dressier look since this room is adjacent to their kitchen and foyer. They loved the comfort of the Haven press-back recliner, and also how it didn’t have the traditional “recliner” look. They also liked the Bennett Duo reclining sofa because it looked more like a stationary piece, but offered a telescoping footrest and a slight recline. The clients worked with the designer to select a few patterns for the chairs and a more neutral base for the sofa. The clients loved the designer’s suggestion of using two sofas rather than a sofa and a loveseat because of the added seat. The designer selected the Reclamation Place group for the living room tables since it coordinated well with their existing beige-colored flooring and furniture pieces. This group offered a round coffee table which allowed for the best use of space due to the reclining ends to the sofa, and also a round end table which worked well in between the two Haven recliners. The designer also suggested a few accessories including lamps that pulled the navy color from the two recliners to the other side of the room for balance. For the sunroom, the clients wanted a cozy sectional with a chaise, so the designer helped them find a sectional with a deeper seat and a fabric that worked well in that room for the base and pillows. She suggested tables, lamps, and mirrors, to create the cozy look and feel that the client wanted for that room. The clients were pleased with the end result of both rooms as their new living room offers lots of reclining options but with a more sophisticated feel, and the new sunroom offers the cozy, comfortable feel that the clients desired.

Downtown Housing Tower

Downtown Housing Tower – Lobby & Parlor
The clients for this project wanted to update their space by adding new furniture, paint, and accessories to their common areas. They wanted to revamp their lobby, turn their current meeting room into a “Parlor”, and add elevator lobby seating to each floor of their building. The building management wanted the new look to have a happy and uplifting, yet cozy feel for their residents. Since this was a large commercial project, the designer collaborated with the salesperson and building management to not only ensure that we stayed within their budget, but also to carefully select the best pieces and materials for accessibility, durability, and clean ability.
The property manager liked the idea of using pops of red, so the designer found the perfect benches for the lobby, and had them upholstered in red. The designer wanted the lobby to be eye-catching, so she suggested the focal wall be painted a bold teal, which showcased the red benches beautifully. She had two chairs on the opposite side of the lobby upholstered in a more neutral gray, and suggested moving an existing artificial tree to camouflage the air conditioning units. The designer chose a yellow-green paint color for the remaining walls of the Lobby, which worked well with the teal, red and gray. For the Parlor, the designer selected a bold teal color for the two sofas, which played off of the teal wall in the Lobby. She chose softer shades of the teal and yellow-green for the walls in the Parlor to give it a more calming, relaxed feel. The Barrow tables were chosen because of their round shape for accessibility and the more traditional style allowed them to work well with some of their existing pieces that they planned to keep. Upholstery selection, accessories, and paint colors played a part in pulling the color through from one room to the other in the adjacent rooms, and achieved an uplifting, happy, cozy overall feel.
